People First
People First of Atlanta:
There are People First chapters around the state, county and world. People First chapters are groups of people with disabilities who get together to support one another as each member practices self advocacy (speaking up for ourselves!) in our personal lives and for issues that are important to all people with disabilities. People First chapters are run by and for people with disabilities. To become a member of People First there are two factors – (1) to have disability (any type or label), and (2) to attend three meetings and be voted in by the other members. People First of Atlanta hold their Meetings – on the third Thursday of each month from 10.00am to 12 noon at The Georgia Advocacy Office (GAO) at 150 E Ponce de Leon Ave #430, Decatur GA 30030 (the building is ½ block form the Decatur MARTA station on the corner of Church Street and Ponce de Leon Ave – with the Georgia Power office visible from the street.Officers (see below) –To run for office, members must be in good standing (dues up to date, etc.) and have been an active member for at least a year. Regular activities are bingo – the 1st Saturday of the month (2.00pm to 5.00pm),
officer meeting the 2nd Thursday of the month (1.00pm to 3.00pm) and
general meeting on the 3rd Thursday of the month (10.00am to 12 noon)
